If it seems to you that during the week there was no news, perhaps it's because you've just missed something interesting, to fix it check our traditional Friday digest.

Well, so what was going on this week. We are proud of the fact that from now our users can connect even more cloud storage to their rollApp account. This week we added OneDrive and Yandex Disk options, to learn more read our previous post.

Except the wide range of supported cloud storage rollApp has a wide collection of available apps. You can work with two productivity suites both OpenOffice and LibreOffice. Want to know what is the difference between them - discover it from the TechRepublic overview.



Amazon Fire Phone is appearing in our digest almost each week, though not in the very rainbow colors. This week PCMag decided to investigate the issue and answer the question "What's Wrong With the Amazon Fire Phone?" Anyway, bad buzz is still a buzz.

Mozilla Firefox in order not to make a bad buzz is fixing its "phishing friendly" cryptographic bug. Read more on how things go on the issue.

Two new cloud storage options added - OneDrive, Yandex.Disk

"There is always something more to add" thought we at rollApp and added two new cloud storage options to our apps. Now our users can connect both OneDrive and Yandex Disk storages to their accounts.

As well in this post we will revise onсe again how to connect to the cloud storage as it seems to be a burning question.

The main thing you need to know - there are 2 options to connect your cloud storage. It's up to you to choose. 

It can be done:
  • From your rollApp account;
  • Directly from the app you are using.

Connect from the account:

1. Login to your account with any suitable option (Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter, Amazon)



2. Choose "cloud storage" tab from the menu.




3. Click the "connect new" button on the cloud storage page.














4. Choose your cloud storage from the drop-down menu. 

5. You can rename your cloud storage if needed. 

6. Click "connect" button next to cloud storage. We will ask you to login to your cloud once again. 
After logging in procedure all storages will ask for permission to access your data, this is security requirement. By accepting it you let rollApp connect to your existing and new files which you wish to open/edit/save with rollApp. 

7. Voila! Your cloud storage is connected,  so now you can work with files and share them easily.

Connect from the app:

1. Click on the "folder" icon on the toolbar in the app.

2. If you are using an app on desktop you will be redirected to rollApp website cloud storage page. How to connect a storage on the page is described above.

If you are doing it from a mobile device you will see a window with storage variants.



3. Choose the cloud storage you want to connect. Storage will ask you to login.

4. Confirm an rollApp access to your storage.

5. Now you can open, save and share files from your cloud storage. 



NOTE:

When you open an app on rollApp for the first time and then try to save or open a document, rollApp pops-up with a message saying No storage connected:



Click on "your profile" will redirect you to the cloud storage page, where the connection procedure is the same and described in the first part.

On the mobile device you can connect cloud storage straight way from the modal window.

Top Tech Stories of the Week: Chromebooks, Amazon, rollApp

Week is almost over, so weekly digest is already arrived. What was the hottest in tech world this week - find out below.

This week Chromebook news popped up from all over the web claiming about new models, new projects and future improvements to come. So here is the most interesting. Welcome new Toshiba Chromebook 2 and learn more why it's so adorable. As well read the PCMag design, feature, performance review of Acer C720 Chromebook including similar models price comparison. 

If you don't want to buy Chromebook you still can try it for free just to understand if it really fits your needs. The only thing you need is to be a US college student or have a friend there. The Chromebook Lending Library, new project from Google, provides students with library kiosks on college spot, where you can lend any Chromebook for 3 days, just to try out. Isn't it great? Sounds interesting.



The second place in chart goes to Amazon, who made a big announcement this week, presenting new series of diverse Kindle Fire models. What Kindle fans can expect? It will be a superb quality sub-$100 tablet, two new e-readers, a high-end premium tablet, and even one for kids. Hopefully, this pleasant news will block Fire Phone price "adventure" and is more positive than predicted Amazon attempts to conquer European market.

Top 5 Tech Stories of the Week: Chromebooks, OneDrive, rollApp, Fire phone, Gimp

Since the positive way of thinking is more healthy, we collected positive news for users  from tech industry. Some companies are cutting their prices, some are improving their product, others are extending features. Get your portion of positive tech news below. 

Seems we haven't cover Chromebook news for couple weeks, so now it's time to fix it. The HP and Asus Chromebooks are catching the wave. HP Chromebooks will come with new Nvidia's Tegra K1processor, superior graphics performance and several new colors. The price of Asus Chromebook was intriguing dropping buck by buck, however only now the eventual discount moment is revealed - The C200MA goes for $199.99 on Amazon and Newegg. 

OneDrive cloud storage also brings some good news to users. With extanded cloud space, enchanced syncing and sharing facilities OneDrive offers even more welcoming improvements. Wanna know what exactly? Check The Verge overview. And yes, soon rollApp will support OneDrive, so follow our updates.

Amazon announced that the price of Fire phone will decrease to $0.99 with an AT&T contract. Despite that these price changes were caused by not quite pleasant circumstances for Amazon, users still may be happy, because it's a nice chance to try if Fire phone is worth using.

Increased fonts for mobile devices

As you already know we've launched support for Amazon Kindle Fire and other Android tablets.This new version of rollApp came with a number of enhancements, which make it easier to work with powerful desktop applications on tablet devices. One of the key new features is increased fonts in application controls.
Now it is much easier to use menus and other control elements: menu items are now larger and much easier to tap into. With increased size of menu items sometimes long menus may not fit into the screen. In this
case arrows that allows scrolling through the menu will appear on the top and at the bottom. This way you will be able to access all items even in long menus and will never miss a single important function you need.

Top Tech Stories of the Week: rollApp, Opensource, Mozilla Firefox, Box

There is a lot of news in the world, but we cover the most interesting computing stuff of this week. 2 out of 5 points are devoted to rollApp. Yeah, we do have something to please you with.

The hit of the week - rollApp launched Kindle Fire and other Android devices support for entire apps collection. This week release was not `accident, we wanted to make happy all LibreOffice fans and enthusiasts, who have gathered at LibreOffice conference in Bern. So we delivered LibreOffice productivity suite to Kindle and Android to provide you with complete user experience on your mobile device (including smartphones). Learn more on what you can expect from recent release in our previous post.

Earlier this week we have launched Spanish UI support for all apps (with tutorials and hints). Hope our Spanish-speaking users will appreciate it. Our team is working on adding new languages. Which ones are you interested in?

As rollApp is a fan of opensource solutions we want to share with you 5 tips on migrating to opensource software, in case you are still hesitating. Jack Wallen from Techrepublic tells you more on the topic.



Summing up opensource theme, we are moving to new Mozilla Firefox 32, which stable release is now available for free download. This time Mozilla made emphasis on security, well quite sensible decision. What other new features are available in new browser version check in IBT article.

To work with rollApp you need not only a browser, but also cloud storage (if you wish to save and share your files). One of supported cloud storage is Box, which in fact has already went more further than just a cloud storage solution. This week Box CEO Aaron Levie has made an announcement of Box Workflow - "a technology that powers business processes on top of the Box platform". BoxWorks team blusters to satisfy enterprise customers with enhanced feature suite, which is called to bring "unprecedented value, while still delivering a simple, intuitive experience" according to Box's blog.
